A £4m scheme procured through Fusion21 has seen 30 flats benefit from a host of green measures leading to improved energy efficiency.

Paradigm Housing Group which owns and manages more than 16,000 affordable homes across the South East is behind the transformative scheme.

The affordable homes provider accessed our Decarbonisation Framework to appoint built environment experts Vinci Facilities via direct award – a contractor well-recognised for working with partners in the public and private sectors to provide efficient, sustainable, and responsible Facilities Management and Building Solutions.

The 16-week programme saw the 30 properties in Prestwood, Buckinghamshire benefit from a variety of green improvements. These included air source heat pumps, solar PV panels, improved ventilation, new windows, door replacements, new windows, and repairs to downpipes - the controlled escape route for the water collected by gutters.

As a result of the improvements, which utilised funding from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2, residents will benefit from reduced energy bills.

All of the flats have improved Energy Performance Certificate bands and now achieve a minimum B band rating, the standard the government is encouraging landlords to work towards where possible.

Paul Towers, Framework Manager (Construction and Decarbonisation) at Fusion21 said: “We’re really pleased that this transformational project has resulted in a host of benefits enjoyed by residents in Buckinghamshire – from green energy home improvements to reduced energy costs.”

Justin McCarthy, Paradigm Housing Executive Director, Property Services: “We’re delighted that we can improve affordability for our customers and at the same time progress our decarb strategy for homes. This was a milestone project for Paradigm and having such a great outcome - both for sustainability and customers, is extremely encouraging for our other upcoming retrofit projects.”

Our dedicated national Decarbonisation Framework supports members, including registered housing providers to deliver against a zero-carbon agenda.

This framework has already procured £250 million in decarbonisation retrofit projects, on behalf of members in the housing, health, and education sectors.
